“The Present moment contains Past and Future. The Secret of Transformation is in the way that we handle this very moment” by Thich Nhat Hahn Reflection How do you handle this moment? What are your choices now for the future of this City? These are the questions we ponder upon along this development of this Urban Design proposal. The Past has brought us to Now and Now is bringing us to the Future. The choice of this moment is already the seed for the future. City Planning is planting the important seeds for the future. We cannot take it lightly. The Central Waterfront of Hong Kong Urban Design is of prime importance to the future of this City. What we are designing and proposing is drawing the Blueprints of our future. Thus, We cannot take it lightly. Yet, at the base of our intention, we are taking it lightly, so that this weight of this responsibility is not becoming our burden which limits our flexibility, creativity and imagination. The city of today is already facing the crisis of Survival. With the drastic rate of population increase, immense urbanization on earth and the fast change of our environmental conditions, the conventional way of designing our City is coming to a time of Reflection. How can we make a Transformation for the City at this moment? Transformation takes place at the root. The root is the collective vision of the team, a group of young professionals who are born and raised here, and has a strong commitment to this city. This root, the collective visions of the team, would support the spread of the Tree yet to appear. We view the understanding of the City fabric important. We see Challenges that we face now are Opportunities. We view the necessity of Connection important. We believe in the creation of meaningful Urban Space, respect to History, benefits to the Whole, the Enjoyment of the Waterfront, the successful Integration of various components of the City. We see the creation of the City of Life possible with due respect to our co-existence with nature. Because, we know that we are all Inter-dependent. Based on the principles of Connection, Inter-dependence, Cross-Programming, Inter-penetrations and to Follow the Flow, the Design is to unfold. The Design has brought about the covering of the P2 road with a gentle mount that would serve as a green Park for the Public and at the same time as a smooth connection between the existing city and the future addition. The Design has proposed the continuation of Urban Space along the flow of Statue Square, the relocation of the Star Ferry Clock Tower in the midst of the new Star Ferry Plaza, the re-positioning of the old Queen's Pier on Victoria Pool, the breaking down of the large bulk of CDA into pieces that are being integrated with the whole, the Government's Head Office axis continues with an Open Space for Public and ends with a Pier 97 that connects with the water, the creation of a Museum in the Park near Wan Chai, the generation of leisure, fun and enjoyment along the Waterfront Boardwalk and the floating Theatre in Water, the Leisure Island with restaurants, cafes, small hotels and piers for leisure boats. A true City of Life starts with your choice and imagination, now.
